I don’t Collect your Data, period

I honestly don’t care about your data, I just care that whoever you are you read my site.

My website runs on html, css, and javascript. It is hosted on Firebase, which is Google. There is no account, no comment box, no form, and no newsletter. Google Analytics records visits. Writing to me opens your email program, and the message goes to somet@kipchilat.com.

Google Analytics records the browser, how you found the site, and which pages you read. The hosting server keeps its own log of visits as well. Nothing sensational. There is no comment box, so there is nowhere here to type your credit card number.

With Google Analytics, I can see how many people from how many countries are reading my stuff, and then have a good long think about how great I am.

The logs get stored on a server somewhere. I’m not sure where exactly: they’re Google, they’ve got a lot of computers. I’ll guess it’s the USA? Honestly I don’t know.

If you’re really that fussed about it, you could read Firebase’s documentation and have a think about what it must be like to be one of the lawyers who write this kind of stuff full time. I assume they get paid well but geez that must be a painful job. One of the nice things about being an independent writer is that if you want to just gratuitously mention your nonsense in the middle of your privacy policy then there’s really nothing stopping you.

I don’t sell or give this visitor data to anyone else. Nobody has access to these juicy details about your screen size and the city you live in except for myself, Google, and probably hackers.

I don’t look at the server logs, but I’m vaguely aware that they’re there. I have no idea what specific information gets recorded on a server log. I hope I never find out. It sounds really boring.

I guess if you were really anxious to know what gets written to a server log then you could go and learn how Firebase Hosting logs requests and get right into the nitty-gritty of it. I’m happy to leave that one to you.

The older policy was written for the blog, which runs on WordPress. That page is still at sometkip.wordpress.com/privacy-policy. This page is for this site.
