Somet is a Partner Development Manager within Microsoft`s Africa Initiatives (Microsoft 4Afrika) his role is to Identify, qualify, onboard, and enable strategic, net-new partners to develop solutions on the Microsoft platform. He is also accountable for driving performance of the portfolio of partners by business priority.

Previously somet Served as a Technical Evangelist in Microsoft 4Afrika his role was to empower and inspire ISVs (Independent Software Vendors), developers and technical audiences with tools and technologies that will allow them to unlock new and unique opportunities across cloud Technologies and build scalable solutions.

Prior to that Somet was a part of the Developer Experience and Platform Evangelism (Dx) team Within Microsoft East Africa based out of Nairobi.

The  mission of the Developer Experience organization is to drive adoption while supporting a vibrant, healthy, and sustainable partner and developer ecosystem locally for Microsoft’s key platforms and winning the next generation of developers – students, startups and professionals by helping them optimize their technical strategy, competitive differentiation and core value proposition of Microsoft Platform and technologies.

Somet holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology from the Jomo Kenyatta University of agriculture and technology in Kenya

Partner Development Manager

The Partner Development Manager (PDM) role is key to Microsoft’s partner management strategy, operating within the One Commercial Partner Organization. The PDM is a business development role that aligns with a partner segment and is accountable for driving performance of the unmanaged portfolio of partners by business priority. The goal is to drive partner recruitment, enablement and business growth based on their strengths and priorities.

1. Solution Envisioning: Leads Digital Transformation/Envisioning Workshops/Practice Accelerators for CIOs and CTOs at which solutions to capitalize on identified market opportunities are shared

2. Technology Roadmap: Defines the technology roadmap for new solutions, seeking technical commitment and investment from startups CTOs, CIOs and Practice Managers

3. Business Modelling: Assess the strategic, technical alignment of the startup’s solution with Microsoft’s technology priorities

4. Success Storytelling: Provide insights and examples to startups of developed solutions on multiple solution areas targeting specific industries

5. Profitability Modelling: Translate the technology roadmap into a multi-year profitability model that defines the ROI and economic value proposition for the startups

6. Enablement Planning: Build the technical enablement plan leveraging the Partner  Services Framework including On-boarding, up/cross-skilling, Bootcamps, training and meeting certification requirements

7. Enablement Execution: Oversees success for the delivery of workshops, Bootcamps, training necessary to build the technical skills and expertise of startups

8. Technical Engagements: Contributes to the success of Proof of Concepts, Architecture Design Sessions, Hackfest by collaborating with Technical Architects to lead the execution

9. Capacity Planning: As part of startup Capacity Planning Identify and consults on the strategic alignment of startups towards Microsoft’s technology priorities and their technical readiness to address solution gaps

10. Co-selling: Work with Microsoft account technical sales teams through the first mile ensuring startups are ready for Co-selling

In this Role, I Lead Microsoft’s engagement with the professional developer community and evangelize Microsoft Azure. Azure is the growth engine for Microsoft, spanning application, infrastructure, data, and artificial intelligence businesses, and this role was accountable for driving awareness and engagement with the professional developer community as a subject-matter expert.

My responsibilities  were

  1. Handhold developers who built software on Microsoft platform both student developers and independent software vendor audiences in their use of Microsoft Technology.
  2. Managed a Team in around 30 Interns for Dx across east and southern Africa.
  3. Leading the MSP program which is a youth-focused program – On campus, use of tools which appeal to youth such as social media for promotion of programs.
  4. Increase awareness of the developer community about the Windows platform by organizing boot camps and related events. on campus presentations for the promotion of products/tools.
  5. Building applications for internal use.
  6. Working with virtual teams, with program Managers in Dubai and the community of interns in MEA, weekly calls, sharing, and collaboration.
  7. Participating in some more corporate projects in partnership with Partners such as boot camps for distributors and partners.
